How Does Menstruation Affect Platelet Count?

Hello, I had a platelet count done which was 115 (1 mth ago) & awaiting a second result today to see if the count is picking up. I have read on the net that prior to a womans menstrual cycle the count drops how can it drop prior to a menstrual bleed can someone help? many thanks
