How Early Can Pregnancy Be Confirmed?

Did I take the hpt too early? I had unprotected intercourse the 18th and ovulated the 19th then on the 26th I had very light pinkish discharge I then took a hpt today on the 28th and it came out negative was this a false negative? Should I test again?
