How Long After Missing The Periods Pregnancy Test Have To Be Undergone?

i have a question i was just at my ob/gyn doctor on may 6 and they took a pregnancy test and i wasn't pregnant and now i just found out on monday that i'm pregnant. I'm confused cause i did have sex on april 8 but after that i got the negative result and i didn't have any sex until the end of may.
