How Long Does A Contraceptive Pill Have Effect?

my wife took the next choice(morning after pill) Saturday because we had a condom broke on us. she took it 11hours after it happen and the pill said to take within 72 hours, could you please answer a couple of questions for me and my wife. I would like to know how long it stay in affect and would it cause heavy bleeding?
