How Long Does It Take For The Swelling To Go Down After Hurting Fingernail?

I smashed my fingernail last week and they poked a hole on my nail to drain blood from the finger by at the hospital. It has been a week and there is still a lot of swelling in my finger, especially near the cuticle. Should I visit the E.R. again or is this normal? If the latter, how long does it usually take for the swelling to go away and to be able to bend the finger normally? Thanks!
