Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I fell on a patch of ice and must have landed on my right wrist. I went for an X-ray and it was determined I have a hairline fracture. I was given a splint to wear 24/7. The hand/wrist is swollen and tender and depending on my movement slightly painful.
1) How long does it typically take to heal? 2) Do I need to wear the splint 24/7- can it heal as well without it? 3) I typically go to the gym for cardio and weight training. How soon can I resume the weights and can I develop an exercise weight program that does not include my right hand? 4) I know I am suppose to rest it,but how is that realistic when I am right handed? 5) I have osteoporosis and Im assuming that contributed to the fracture. How do I prevent this type of injury seeing that I am more prone to fractures?
