How Long The Antibiotics Take To Relieve Throat Infection?

Um, hello. I was recently diagnosed with a throat infection. I suppose it was bacterial because the Doc gave me an injection-form of Penicillin and a prescription of 500 mg of Amoxicillin. Symptoms: mild-to-severe sore throat when swallowing, ear-ache (probably attributed to infection), fever of 100.3 (gone), one or two red spots on roof of mouth, sensation as if throat is shutting up when drinking any sort of liquid, slightly tender glands. I want to know if this is Strep. My doctor said it was just a "random throat infection." But I have a feeling it's something more. And, also, when will a throat infection go away after starting antibiotics? This is my second day.
