How Safe Is Taking Mucinex D For Chronic Cough?

I had nasal surgery in Jan. My last visit I was given a prescription for Nasonex. I used it, but I got a cough that won t quick. It sounds like a smoker s cough and I have never smoked. I called and I was told to take Mucinex D. I can t keep this up. Thank You Je
