How Should Persistent Shingles With Pain Be Treated?

Hi mother had an outbreak of the Shingles 2 weeks ago. She was prescribed 800 mgs of the acyclovir 2x a day for 7 days. Was that enough to get rid of the shingles if not can she a take something else. She is having pain from the shingles now. The outbreak was on the left side of here face.
