How To Check For Broken Hymen?

I'm trying to understand my vagina. I think I'm a virgin... my partner has tried to enter me but I never feel his penis going in, just a bit of pain from the pushing. I don't know if my hymen is broken, I've been looking at pictures/diagrams but I just don't understand them. When I use a mirror to look at myself I see bits that aren't on any of the websites. Please help me.
