How To Cope With A Person Having Bipolar Disorder?

My grandson is involved with a girl who has bipolar behaviors and I need info to give him on how to use DBT or other tools in handling her behavior, especially in ending the relationship as she always convinces him to stay with her even tho the relationship is hurting him more now in his freshman year away at college.
