How To Cure High Fever,frequent Urination Causing Pain And Chills?

My husband, 62 years old, has been running a temp of 102 for more than 24 hours. He has had frequent urination with pain and occasional chills. He is diabetic and has only one kidney (congential). Abdominal pain, but no vomiting or loose stools. His doctor is out of town but phoned in an order for Cipro. If his symptoms continue tomorrow, should we go to the emergency room?
