How To Cure Swollen Toe Nail After Hitting?

A heavy object fell on my big toenail. Two days later the pain went away after constant soaking in cold water. Now the nail is no longer blue but a darker blue almost black and all around the cuticle is spots of red mostley black puffy skin. Other than the toenail falling off is there anything I should worry about? What is the stuff inside the puffy area?
