How To Get Rid Of Brown Patches On Face?

I put toothpaste on my pimples and left it overnight and realised it was a big mistake as the next day the whole area turned red. I called my doctor and she asked me to use flutivate on the affected area. The redness is gone now but the skin in that area has become really dry and dark brown. Is this is a sign of heeling or am I scarred with brown patches? can you explain how exactly flutivate will heal my skin? i also happen to have very dry skin.
