How To Get Rid Of Dark Genetic Spots On Cheeks?

I am a sixteen year old girl. I have dark spots spread on my cheeks area, these spots weren t there 3-4 years back, but it started as only 4-5 spots on my left cheek , these spots increased rapidly in number last year,before that, they weren t that noticable but now they are. i went to the doctor, but he said they are genetic seeing my mother. My mother has smallpox scars on her face, no spots. And genetic spots appear at a small age i believe, can these spots be treated or are they permanent? My menstrual cycle is regular and no diseases, i am a bit overweight though.. Please help!
