How To Get Rid Of Rashes Due To Adult Napkins?

A doctor friend of mine is bed-ridden and has to use adult napkins. He has now developed rashes where the plastic portion of the napkin is in contact with the lower abdomen and at the side. Is this an allergic reaction to the plastic or is it because of infection in the urine?
