How To Heal The Cut On Skin?

My friend cut himself on a cooking tool last night. He feels as though he needs to change the dressing again (already done so this mornng). The band-aid dressing is stuck to the scab again. My question is does he need to change the band-aid and if so how should he go about doing it? Soaking in warm water does not seem to do the trick.
