How To Prevent Gout?

Hi, what is the best way to prevent gout? Besides meds..... My husband has been taking allopuronol for gout yet still gets occasional flare ups. He takes an aspirin daily along with cholesterol med. and high blood pressure med. Could those meds be causing a increase in uric acid?
