How To Prevent Recurring Ear Infection?

I am an 83 old male with the current year I have experienced 5 attacks of middle ear infection. my primary physician has ordered Cortisporin TC ear susp. I am concerned that as I have never experienced this condition before what am I doing to aggravate this attack? a And am I receiving the proper medication for such a recurring problem, again I have just started this maliday and want to know how to combat and how to prevent.
