How To Reduce Pain And Swelling In Penis?

A piece of wood kicked back from the table saw and hit my husband right above his penis. He is in pain and has some swelling. There is a slight red mark at the point of impact, but no bruising or discoloration around it. What can be done to reduce the swelling. He is not to keen on putting ice on that area.
