How To Stop Itching In Vulva?

Since yesterday my Vulva has been extremely itchy. I thought it was thrush and started a course of Metro gel. In the morning when I wipe there are pink tissue like spots . The itching has not subsided and is extremely uncomfortable. Is Metro gel the correct thing to be using ? What other over the counter creams could I use to stop the itching?
