How To Treat A Scab?

I'm looking for some aftercare help with a mole I had removed via cauterizing tool. The strip of material that was used to cover it and the petroleum jelly that was keeping it in place came off over night. The area has scabbed over a bit now. I've read that scabs are bad for scarring. Will keeping it moist with petroleum jelly be fine or should I removed the scab?
