How To Treat Hardness Of Head After Felling Down?

My 11 year old was crossing the street to get on the bus and slipped and fell. She said she hit her head hard and said something is wrong. My husband just went to pick her up from school. This happened this morning. Should we take her to the ER or see if we can get in to her pediatrician?
