How To Treat Mood Swings While Suffering From Bipolar?

my wife is in a funk, child dx as bipolar, wife prescribed an antidepressant and xanex .5 but her mood swings are weeping to anger to panic attack. what can I do to help her? Wife also feels 18 y/o dx is her fault, feels at age 6 had child never been moved from FLA. to Missouri she some how would not have BPD.
