How To Treat Nail Infection?

I was on holiday and caught my nail, it tore a little bit down. A large lump has appeared, well not large but it was filled with a little bit of puss, but no longer is, i put anticeptic cream on it but i cant tell if it has worked. I dont want my nail removed is there any other option.
