How To Treat Overweight Leading To Shortness Of Breath And Indigestion?

My nephew s heart rate was 96 beats per minute, he is 12 years old and over weight? I know he needs to loose weight but he said he was having a hard time breathing. After talking to him and watching husband actions it seemed more like indigestion but I kept a close eye on him all evening and after a while the pain subsided. Question is should we/I follow up with a doctors appointment? ( kind of think I know the answer but...doesn t hurt to ask)
