How To Treat Purple And Swollen Hand?

I'm a volleyball player and today at practice I think i hit the ball wrong on my hand. While in the swift motion of things it started to get purple and swollen and started hurting badly. Now when I touch it or move my finger it hurts and I'm not sure how to treat it. Even when I don't move it's constantly throbbing. Ice then tape? I'm not sure. Can you help?
