How To Treat Severe Pain In Hand Due To Frost Bite?

My uncle had frostbite during the Korean War in his hand. He is now having severe pain, which is new, and his hand reacts violently to the cold air. It feels like it s freezing. What is this called and what can be done about it? He s 85. Thank you. Donna Conner
