How To Treat Soreness Of Knees?

My elbows and knees hurt all the time. In the mornings on waking my elbows feel locked when rubbed on the bony part they are sore. My knees are so sore that on first waking i have to walk downstairs sideways. Its been like this for about 6 months but feels like its getting worse.
