How To Treat Sun Burn In Kids?

Hi, my 7 year old son has developed a red rash (like sunburn) on his face, torso thighs and feel with feels hot and itchy. Any ideas what may have caused this? He had it yesterday and it did improve a lot but took a couple of hours to improve post Piriton. Thank you Wendy
