How To Treat Swelling Of Hand And Wrist Caused Due To A Fracture?

Hi,i fractured my 4th and 5th metacarpals approximately 5weeks ago. I had a closed reduction and k-wires fitted, which have just been removed (4 weeks after fixation). How long does it usually take for the swelling to go down? is it normal for the hand and wrist to be swollen? No pain and the holes are not weeping.Thank you.
