How To Treat Swollen Testicle And Stomach Pain After Undergoing Appendectomy?

My Brother had an emergency appendectomy (full rupture) last Wednesday. He is still in the hospital. Yesterday one of his testicles has swollen to the size of a baseball. Sounds as though there may be an abcess. His stomach pain is getting increasingly worse both pain in the wound sit and heartburn. They put him on IV antibiotics. 1. Is this a normal complication? 2. What should our expectations be?
