How To Treat Thumb Infection?

Hi I have an infected thumb I don t know why or how...but I started messing with it because it was somewhat swollen and I soaked it in hot water barley pressed it and pus was coming out. What should I do? It really hurts. When the pus started coming out it hurt so bad I almost passed out.
