How To Wean Off Of Morphine?

Hi My 96 mom is taking morphine for pain and was told that she should wean herself off it. So, she stopped taking it cold turkey. she was taking 15 mg tabs every 8 hours, plus oxycodone for breakthrough pain. I told her that I thought that it was dangerous to quit cold turkey and to ask her doctor how to wean herself off, but she has not complied. Any suggestions on proper procedure for safely weaning off of morphine?
