How Would I Know If I Have The Mumps? My

How would I know if I have the mumps? My left cheek/neck is swollen and very tender, and my ear hurts a bit. I went to see a doctor today; a rapid strep test was done, and came up negative, though I was told that my throat is very red. I asked if it could be the mumps, since my cheek is quite swollen, and the doctor said she didn't know.
