Husband Has Been Coughing A Croupy, Barking Type Of Cough

Husband has been coughing a croupy, barking type of cough for about a week. He had this same type of thing last spring that lasted about 4 months. Coughing never fully goes away. He is on antibiotics, nebulizers, and cough medicines. He coughs until his head pounds and sometimes vomits. He has been told that he has spots on his lungs but they don't seem to be concerned about it. He is miserable, tired all the time, has trouble breathing and doing his daily activities. What can do to make this better for him. He is 63 and retired recently from building construction industry as a laborer foreman.
