I am 36 years old and have diminished ovarian reserve, diagnosed at 32. I had and continue to have shortened and irregular menstrual cycles - typically ranging from 18-25 day cycles. The diagnosis was determined based on a very high day 3 FSH, an almost non existent anti-meullarian hormone level, and low antral follicle counts. My obgyn would like to see me taking birth control pills to "protect the uterine lining", increase the level of estrogen in my body since I am young to have such low levels, and help alleviate symptoms caused by the DOR. I would like to get a second opinion as to whether it really is beneficial for me to be on bcps, whether it doesn't really matter, or whether it could actually be harmful. I decided to give it a try. I took lo-loestrin for almost 3 cycles - it was fantastic, aside from severe acne that it caused (I've never had acne in my life) - so I went off of it immediately. I switched to ortho tri cyclen lo - which instantly causes significant nausea and headaches. If I do decide to try bcps again, I am looking for one with the lowest dose of estrogen possible, and an anti-androgenic or very low androgenic type of progestin (that was the cause of the severe acne break out). Can you please advise as to some safe options that fit this? (I am fearful if taking Yaz due to reports of increased issues with blood clots). Thank you very much in advance for your time and assistance.
