I Am 45, Have Never Had Children, Been Married Almost

I am 45, have never had children, been married almost 5 years and we are very active.
I did not lose my virginity until 29 and then there was an approx span of 10 years after that before i became active again with my husband.
I will not use an IUD for religious reasons, my P.A. said that I could use the birth control pill right up through menopause in fact to keep the hormone levels in check.
I have PCOS and shave my face and chin every morning
Recently the P.A. was out when I had an appointment and so I saw the regular doctor, which is fine because most doctors like to at least lay eyes on a patient at least once, however he said that due to my high blood pressure (which I take meds for)I needed to seek an alternative to the pill. Since i have not had children I don't want my tubes tied, and if i don't have estrogen the testosterone in my system will really take over. He also said that since i had my pap smear done last November I would soon be due again.
I think this doctor is not up on the latest guidelines of women's health that says if paps are normal one is needed only every 3 years, and then what do I do about a contraceptive alternative
