I Am 50 Years Old And My Last Period Was

I am 50 years old and my last period was Oct. 31 2014...I just had a pap test on Thursday this week...haven't had one in 5 years. It seems that my period started right after the test...at first I thought it was just some normal spotting after the test...but it has been heavy and i have been having severe cramps. Is this okay? Did the pap test do something...or could it just be a coincidence that my period started?
