Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 51 and on the NR. FSH test says I'm very close to menopause. My MD suggests to continue the NR and do FSH test in another 6 months. We've been in this pattern for over a year now and I told her I would like to try stopping the NR (not putting another one in after my next period). I also told her I am concerned what might happen (negative symptoms) when I do because I have been on this form of HRT for almost 10 years now even though I know the NR is a low dose of hormones. Her response was that I can try stopping the NR and just see how it goes. And of course I can call her if I experience symptoms. My question: Do you think that is a concern? My sister was taking estrogen for many years after a hysterectomy and was told to never quit estrogen "cold turkey" but to wean off slowly. I am wondering if I need to be concerned quitting the NR "cold turkey." Donna
