I Am 62 And I Have Hip Pain That Goes

I am 62 and I have hip pain that goes down my left leg to about mid thigh. It started 3 days ago and has become so bad that I had to go to urgent care. They would not take an x-ray to see the condition of my hip. They just put me on pain med that has done nothing. Should I have gone to the ER for an x-ray? I did go to the chiropractor first cause I thought it was sciatica. That didn't do anything either.
