I Am 63 Years Old...quite Sure I Have Shingles. I

I am 63 years old...quite sure I have shingles. I started getting pain on my right side on Tuesday, broke out in blisters this evening. My question is-- is there any need to see a Dr.? I had heard there was medication to start early on to keep the shingles from getting as bad. Is that true? Also, what Otc pain med is the most effective?
