I Am, 89 Years Old And Have Just In The

I am, 89 years old and have just in the past few months noticed the veins in my let leg, below the knee are "popping". Then just a few nights ago I noticed the left ankle is swollen. For the past few months that ankle and lower leg have been itchy - I had not notice till now that the ankle is swollen and feels rather tight.
Could you tell me what might be the cause, please?
