I am a 38 year old female in very good shape, I teach Zumba twice a week and jog daily. 4 months ago I experienced pain in my right chest under my shoulder blade, my amylase was high. After various tests, including ultrasound, X-rays and a CT scan it was determined that I had intussuseption of the small intestine. It was first deemed incidental until a second CT scan showed 2 areas of intususseption. I was admitted to the hospital where I had a lower bowel series. The barium it is believed pushed the intestines through as no intussuseption was seen. I was discharged. Less than a week later the pain began to return. I immediately started on a diet as recommended by a holistic nutritionist of cooked veggies, protein shakes and purses. The pain slowly went away and I commenced eating a wider variety of foods. I went back to my dr feeling better then ever to have bloodwork done, the results showed that my AST AND ALT were now elevated as well. I went back to a surgeon who is not convinced I have true intususseption as I have never had vomiting, bloody stool, or diarrhea. She out me on antacids for 30 days as the pain I described is also not typical of intussuseption. I will be meeting again with the surgeon next week. I had more bloodwork today, my alt is 69, ast is 56, and amylase is 137. I beleive that I may still have intussuseption, I am currently drinking a magnesium drink twice daily and while I feel bloated sometimes, I beleive my stool is fairly normal. Is it possible that the intussuseption is coming and going? Gastro will not see me, I was hoping they might determine a cause as no lead point could be seen on the CT scans. They beleive that gen surg must deal with this. Is there any other reason my ebpnzymes might be elevated in this situation.....I'm really trying to avoid surgery!
