I Am A 38y/o That Has Been Experiencing Problems With

I am a 38y/o that has been experiencing problems with heavy bleeding and severe cramping. My mom was roughly my age when she had a hysterectomy and I do not want to have one at this point. I had a tubal ten years ago. My doctor prescribed me Aygestin 5mg orally 1x daily to try and stop my periods. I am due to begin my period in four days (Friday) and was told to start this evening which I did. My boyfriend is coming back from military duty this weekend and I would prefer not to be on my period. My question is will starting this prior to beginning my period only 4 days and in such a low dose stop my period? Idk of it helps or means anything but I am 5'2 and 97lbs. I just read in order to delay a period you must take 15mg a day so I'm confused becasue this is something my doctor wants me to continue on in hopes of stopping periods all together. Please advice. Thank you.
