I Am A 53 Yo Woman And I Have A

I am a 53 yo woman and I have a fibroid that sits on the top of my uterus that measures a whopping 11cm. My dr has suggested a hysterectomy and has prescribed provera to stop my bleeding. I have all the usual symptoms of this condition. Frequent excessive bleeding, constipation, frequent urination, bloating, however, sex is not painful at all. I have a uterine biopsy scheduled for wed, Aug 5th and my question is how long will it take the provera to stop the bleeding. I started taking it today. I want to have a clean biopsy, but I am afraid that the bleeding won't stop by then. Also, my dr. seems to think that leaving the ovaries and just removing the uterus is ok. I'm not sure about that. If I leave the ovaries, my fear is not only potential cancer (which luckily does not run in my family) but sexual dryness and I am afraid my skin will age. If she leaves the ovaries, will I go through menopause an or avert those other issues.
