I am a 55 year old male, and a patient of VA. I have been suffering from swelling and pain to the left side of my face for the last 6.5 years. It started after having surgery for an abscessed tooth that the infection got way out of control. After the surgery, I started having pain in the Jaw joint on that side, Later, I began experiencing intermittent swelling. This went on for years. over the last year the pain and swelling has gotten worse, and is not accompanied with severe headaches, and intermittent facial drooping on that side. The doctors at VA first told me it was a blocked Silva duct, but MRI's disproved that diagnosis. Now they are claiming that it is possibly angioedema, but that does not match my symptoms. After 6.5 years of dealing with this, the VA has still not made a definitive diagnosis. The pain and swelling are constant now, and is hampering me getting employment. They either think I am having a stroke or have been in a fight. I am getting disparate here. Can you please offer me some advice? I am using VA's medical service because I can not afford to get Insurance.
