I am a 56 year female and experienced sudden nausea and diarrohea and was unable to eat. There was a bug going around at the time so I wasn't too concerned. Except it continued for six weeks. The doctor was not much help at the time. Then my hair fell out dramatically and my finger and toe nails. I changed doctors and they were a lot more thorough. I was sent for a colonoscopy and the specialist said it was Chrons however the lab tests said colitis. She said it is definitely Chrons. I was put on Prednisone on and off, and Azathioprine 50mg twice a day with Asacol. After a while my ankles were swelling up and the blood test showed elevated liver count. I had to stop Azathioprine until my liver results improved which they did but remained on Asacol. I also developed a bad skin like hives on my face. Now the specialist has given me a script to take Azathioprine 50mg once daily (rather than twice daily as prior), and Allopurinol 100mg once daily (shunter), together with the Asacol. I am now hesitant as the side effects of these medications. While I have only been on Asacol, I seemed to be coping fine. I even stopped taking that for a couple of weeks and seemed fine, until told to continue on them. I am always extremely tired, blurry vision (both of these which I had prior but worse now), get hot on and off, feel as if I have had flu for months, sore throat, stomach very bloated something I cannot get used to. I was also diagnosed with two types of arthritis about 4 years prior due to extremely sore feet. Every day on my feet is painful. My whole body also aches as if I have been working out in a gym at times. Worse in the mornings and if I do a lot of walking. Any advice? Regards, Ginny
