Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 59 yr. old woman who has been having some "issues" since my last few surgeries. I had emergency surgery for a blocked large intestine. They were afraid it was going to burst so they gave me a temporary Illeostomy (which I had for 8 months). In June I had the reconstructive surgery on the bowel and a stoma reversal. The last 1 1/2 yrs. I have noticed that I have insomnia at least 4 nights a week (dr. just gives sleeping pills which don't really work) I tried Melatonin / Seratonin etc... I'm tired non-stop no matter if I catch a nap or even waking up from overnight med's. I've gained so much weight and that's not usual for me. I go on the tread mill and it now exhausts me and leaves me with constant joint and muscle pain that doesn't seem to be relieved. My wrist on the left hand can't carry anything much without it just dropping the item or feeling like it becomes disjointed. I'm so depressed about how my body is now reacting and can't seem to concentrate on doing much of anything. My feet and hands are so dry no matter how much lotion I put on them. My throat feels "thick"? odd. My family (5 girls and a brother) have all had these symptoms over the years with no relief. My aunt had a goiter and one or two family members have mentioned their thyroids. What could be happening to me?
