I am a home mate to a 63-year old lady who was diagnosed with polio at two weeks. She does not seem able to get help from her doctor with regards to exercise. It is difficult as she is wheelchair bound, only the use of her left arm; both feet are clubbed. The wheelchair opens on the back and she moves her body slowly from her bed into the chair and from the chair back into her bed. She is able to wiggle backwards to use the toilet and then wiggle forward.
It would be wonderful to learn if there are any exercises she could try to do, which might help her be more healthy. Her weight is difficult to reduce, unfortunately and I am usually the one trying to make healthy meals and watching carbs and calories, which is really difficult for her and I eat whatever I fix for her, as an example. I am 66 and retired abc I know how hard to "not" eat items which are really not healthy, except once in a time.
Thank you for your patience in reading about this need for Joan.
Respectfully,
Barb Herman, Vacaville. CA
